After the most acrimonious and divisive election campaign in American political history a new president is to be elected. This president will have to deal with the most unstable and dangerous world situation since World War 2. He or she will need the support of the American people and all who believe in democracy and freedom. The failed policies and attitudes of the past must be abandoned; Dialogue must replace threats, respect must replace contempt, honesty must replace lies, co-operation must replace aggression. To continue as before is a recipe for misunderstanding with possible dire consequences.
