Equal opportunity should mean equal pay – or winnings in this case. However, there is a colossal difference in prize money. You can’t create a world champion from a handful of competitors – it takes thousands. And you’re not going to get thousands of teenage girls taking up snooker as a profession on the sort of winnings they get. Snooker is a minority sport.
If the ladies tour had similar winnings then the pool of talent would grow and very soon we’d have a world champion. The general appeal of the sport would increase and consequently the size of the winnings would increase.
ROUGH JUSTICE?
April 25, 2015A woman admits theft after taking an unattended clothes horse from a train which she believed had been abandoned – and now has a criminal record. This sad case illustrates how sometimes the judicial system can go wrong. Although by the letter of the law she committed an offence she hadn’t broke the spirit of the law. My advice to her is to try to get the conviction overturned.
